LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) — A 13-year-old Las Vegas middle school student is fighting for her life after she was severely beaten on school grounds.

Friends of the girl say the altercation is the result of the girl being bullied.

Sonia Quintana visited O'Callaghan Middle School shortly before the incident, and says she saw fear in the eyes of two girls.

"They're begging for help because they were going to be jumped," Quintana says. "That's what they stated, they feared to go back out here. They were just telling them just go to class why they wouldn't help them."

Quintana learned of the beating that followed when she picked up her daughter from school.

She now fears for her daughter, a childhood friend of the girl.

The victim's family says they had gone to school the morning of the beating to address the continued bullying.

The fight happened during lunchtime.
