LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The Las Vegas Strip may be slow now, but come New Year's Eve more than 330,000 visitors are expected to be in town, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
“That's going to leave a nongaming economic impact of about $210 million on our economy just for that one night,” LVCVA spokesman Jeremy Handel said.
New Year's Eve tourists will trickle in over the next few days, Handel said.
“With New Year's Eve being on a Monday this year, we're looking at hopefully a lot of people will be making that a five and four day weekend, coming in Friday and Saturday to spend the day through New Year's Day,” said Handel.
According to Handel, hotels for the holiday could be filled 90 percent or more.
“With 150,000 hotel rooms, to have a 90 percent or better of any kind, that's just a tremendous amount of visitors,” said Handel. “You’ve got The Killers coming back to town to put on a show. You've got the Red Hot Chili Peppers in town. You've got Pitbull in town. So there's really a gamut of entertainment options. The UFC will be holding their annual New Year's Eve weekend event this weekend as well.”
Handel said seven hotels up and down the strip will set off fireworks on New Year’s Eve, bringing in the New Year with a bang.
