LAS VEGAS – The
Las Vegas Monorail will provide hassle-free access to the city’s best New Year’s Eve parties, events and clubs when people from all over the world gather to celebrate America's Party: Las Vegas New Year 2012.
Las Vegas Boulevard will close to vehicles, taxis and buses in the early evening, but Monorail riders will still be able to reach their party destinations in 15 minutes or less, with non-stop service until 3 a.m.
“Locals visit the Strip on New Year’s Eve to experience the best party in the country, not to waste time in traffic trying to reach a restaurant, show or nightclub,” said Ingrid Reisman, vice president of corporate communications for the Las Vegas Monorail Company. “For $1 per ride, locals can travel to their party destinations without having to worry about road closures and crowded streets.”
To receive the local fare, Nevada residents must present valid Nevada picture ID at the Las Vegas Monorail customer service booths located at the MGM Grand (Star Lane entrance) and Sahara Monorail stations.
The customer service booths will be open on New Year’s Eve from 11 a.m. – 12:30 a.m. Locals can purchase up to four single-ride tickets (two round trips) per valid Nevada ID on New Year’s Eve. Booths will be closed on New Year’s Day.
Trains will arrive every few minutes at each of the seven stations, even when the dazzling fireworks display lights up the sky at midnight.
