The Turnaround: What Is It?
The Turnaround is a unique year- long 2011/2012 project conducted by News 3 and our media partner LasVegasSun.com, with cooperation from the Clark County School District.
The Turnaround follows the progress or failure of five Clark County schools that did not make the grade. In other words, these schools are called failing schools, typically identified by low/failing test scores, diminished expectations, uninspired instruction, parental apathy and/or a high student drop-out rate.
The five schools in the Turnaround are getting one year and one last chance at success. Question is, will these schools be able to turn around? You’ll find out on "News 3 Nightly at 6," and at LasVegasSun.com.
The Turnaround project has exclusive access inside the failed schools: three high schools, and two elementaries.
In the spring of 2011, the Clark county school district cleaned house at these chronically underperforming schools, in order to give students there a better chance at success. Enter a new team of teachers and new leaders: will they be enough to turn around Chaparral, Mojave and Western High Schools? Will they ignite young minds at Elizondo and Hancock Elementary schools?
Join News 3’s Jessica Moore and follow the fate of these schools.
The Turnaround: saving schools, and in the process, rescuing a city.
