“For the love of the story.” It’s Marie Mortera’s mantra and she puts it to action when she anchors News 3 Live at 3 and 7.

As news anchor, Marie Mortera is honored to be in a position to shed light on stories that may not always surface. Recent stories include a 10-year fight against a rare cancer, sex trafficking victims describing their escape and a young congressman who gave his first home interview since his six-way bypass surgery.

Marie started her career in the San Francisc/Bay Area, where she covered Filipino immigrant struggles post 9/11 - for example, an aging airport employee whose fingerprints faded over time, left wondering if he could still keep his job. In Yuma, Ariz., she followed a team of doctors across the border. They outfitted Mexican residents with hearing aids and Marie witnessed an unforgettable moment - a young child hearing her mother’s voice for the first time. While in Yuma, Marie won an Edward R. Murrow award for her role in reporting on a military jet crash.

In 2013, she joined the FBI Las Vegas Citizens Academy Alumni Association, a non-profit that supports the FBI and community service. Marie was named Best Anchor by the Electronic Media Awards two years in a row and received a professional achievement award from Las Vegas’ Filipino-American Heritage foundation.

After the birth of her daughter in 2014, Marie wants 2015 to be about sharing peace, kindness and love through yoga. When she’s not doing the news, she teaches prenatal yoga and has also been asked to teach victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, natural disasters and first responders.
