“Our ninth year is full of great films,” said Lee Lanier, executive director of the 2013 Dam Short Film Festival
The festival takes place in historic downtown Boulder City over four days. Categories include Drama, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Horror, Documentary, Animation, Student, and Nevada Filmmakers. The short films are grouped into 25 themed programs showcasing a record 146 films this year.
"Last year's event broke attendance records with approximately 2,400 seats filled in three days," noted Festival Director John LaBonney. This season the festival expands to four days, incorporating several special programs into the schedule.
Local filmmakers are highlighted by a special showcase: the “Nevada Filmmakers” program is at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb 8, and will screen seven films from up-and-coming Las Vegas filmmakers.
Other special programs include a 90-minute presentation by Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett of The Found Footage Festival, showcasing a hilarious look at old videos found at garage sales, thrift stores, and Dumpsters across the country.
The Found Footage block will run at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.
Also joining the 2013 Dam Short Film Festival is a program of shorts presented by the Viscera Film Festival, a film festival specializing in horror films directed by women, running at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
