On this Valentine’s Day, one man pushing a safety message -- date safely. A concept to be shared with adults and even younger. News 3's Marie Mortera has ths story.
"You have a choice do you want your peers or you to teach them? you're going to be a much better source so the younger the better,” said Mike Domitrz, executive director of the Date Safe Project.
The Date Safe Project began after a horrific attack on his sister. She was raped and he vowed to get the word out to others.
So he does -- with presentations around the world.
“Number one mistake parents make when talking to their teens is the following statement, ‘if anyone touches you, I'll kill them,'"Domitrz said. "Reverse it about being your child instead of about being your anger. ‘if anyone touched you sexually against your will or without your permission, I will always be here for you,'" Domitrz said.
