Las Vegas Residents To Celebrate Safe Summer Nights Together

Community residents are invited to enjoy free entertainment, refreshments and a resource fair while getting to know each other at five Safe Summer Nights celebrations that bring a message of peace and safety.

Join city of Las Vegas representatives, local nonprofit organizations and neighbors for music, children’s games, face painting, and the opportunity to learn about community resources Friday nights in May at centrally located elementary schools.

Area residents are invited to learn about summer youth activities, health services, community safety, money management programs, adult education opportunities and much more at these events.

Free hot dogs, chips and water will be served while supplies last.

•May 9, 4 to 6 p.m., at Halle Hewetson Elementary School, 701 N. 20th St.
•May 23, 5 to 7 p.m., at J.T. McWilliams Elementary School, 1315 Hiawatha Road.
•May 30, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Booker Elementary School, 2277 N. Martin Luther King Blvd.

Additional gatherings are scheduled this summer at city of Las Vegas community centers.

•June 25, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave.
•July 18, 6 to 8 p.m., at East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

Children’s Easter Egg Hunt

The city of Las Vegas will host an Easter Egg hunt event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

The event is co-sponsored by Cardenas Markets.

Open to children ages 3 to 12, the hunt will be divided into age groups and prizes will be awarded to the 10 children across all age groups that find the most eggs.

One golden egg will also be hidden for each age group. The child within each group that discovers the golden egg will have a chance to win a grand prize.

Registration is not required for this event. For more information, call the East Las Vegas Community Center at (702) 229-1515.

Keep Las Vegas Beautiful To Brighten Elementary School

The city of Las Vegas’ Keep Las Vegas Beautiful team will partner with students, parents, teachers and residents to brighten Halle Hewetson Elementary School, located at 701 N. 20th St., beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 19 Volunteers will be painting murals at the school and also helping to start a school garden project.

Volunteers will be working with Markus Tracy, a community artist, to paint murals throughout the school and playground area. In addition, a teaching garden will be planted for the school.

Keep Las Vegas Beautiful, a chapter of Keep America Beautiful, is comprised of representatives from the city of Las Vegas, Republic Services of Southern Nevada, the Clark County School District, the University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebel Recycling Program, UNR Cooperative Extension, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Southern Nevada Graffiti Coalition, United Way of Southern Nevada, Outdoor Las Vegas Foundation, the Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection and Green Our Planet.
