LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Department of Corrections announced it has joined the state’s automated victim information and notification system known as Victim Information and Notification Everyday.
Crime victims and other concerned citizens will have around-the-clock access to custody information about offenders held in prisons and jails throughout the state and country. The system allows victims to be immediately informed in the event an offender is transferred, released or escapes from custody.
“VINE will allow our Victim Services Unit to expand the types of notifications we provide to victims. This allows us to further protect victims of crime by keeping them informed on the custody status of their offenders,” said Director James “Greg” Cox.
Nevada Department of Corrections joins 13 of Nevada’s county jails in the statewide service, and becomes the 43rd corrections department in the country to include VINE as part of their resources to crime victims.
Nevada VINE can be used by calling (888) 268-8463 or by visiting
www.vinelink.com to track the custody status of an offender or register to be notified by phone or e-mail in the event of a transfer, release, or escape.
Operators are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist victims who need help obtaining offender information or registering for notification. The service is free and anonymous.
