LAS VEGAS -- The
Nevada State Contactors Board, in collaboration with representatives from the Legislature and the Nevada Health and Human Services Agency, is hosting a Senior Awareness Programs in Las Vegas to raise awareness of scams targeting seniors.
The workshop will offer tips on how seniors can protect themselves, and provide resources for reporting incidents of abuse.
The program takes place on Monday, October 29 from 10:30 to 11:30a.m. at Boulder City Senior Center, 813 Arizona Street, Boulder City, Nev.
Between July 2010 and June 2011, 4300 elderly abuse cases were reported to the Nevada Health and Human Services Aging and Disability Services Division.
This accounts to roughly 12 incidents of elderly abuse each day. With the aging Baby Boomer population, this figure is likely to increase, which is why the Contractors Board is partnering with state legislators and agency representatives to raise awareness of scams targeting the elderly in hopes to combat this growing and alarming trend.
