LAS VEGAS -- Walker Furniture is still accepting letters of nomination on behalf of families and individuals in need for the company’s 20th annual Home For The Holidays program.
Once again, Walker Furniture has expanded the program to include 28 recipients of a houseful of brand new furniture, in time for the holidays. The deadline for nomination letters is Dec. 1.
For the past 20 years, hundreds of Southern Nevada families have seen their lives change for the better through the Home for the Holidays program, which has drawn community-wide support.
Recipient families have typically endured a variety of hardships, including single-parent households facing financial difficulty; families with children suffering from physical or mental disorders; families that have lost their homes and belongings to fires; families that have been affected by illness, domestic violence or sexual abuse.
Letters to Walker Furniture typically come from teachers and students, health care professionals, social service workers, clergy, friends, neighbors, children and grandchildren.
Past recipients included a single-parent family of five, where one child had a brain injury that required ongoing therapy and the entire family was sleeping on the floor; a family that lost all of their possessions in a fire; four minor children whose mother was shot and killed by their father and are now being raised by their grandparents.
Walker Furniture relies on the community to submit letters on behalf of prospective recipients.
Anyone with a family or individual in mind should write to company CEO, Larry Alterwitz, describing the situation.
All letters are reviewed by outside, independent panels with assistance from HELP of Southern Nevada. The preliminary panel consists of representatives of HELP of Southern Nevada, a local nonprofit that reads and verifies the thousands of letters received each year from the community.
Since 1970, HELP of Southern Nevada has assisted individuals and families to become self-sufficient through direct services, training and referrals. HELP of Southern Nevada has been a great asset to Walker since joining them as a partner for the Home For The Holidays program.Letters should be sent to:
