With the increase in residential robberies this year and the rise in registered handguns, LVMPD Area Commands will discuss “How to Protect Your Home and Those You Love” during its First Tuesday events.
Metro Crime Prevention Specialists will teach residents how to lower their risk at home -- from avoiding a potential firearm accidents to making it homes safer against burglary or home invasion.
According to Metro crime statistics, residential robberies increased 14 percent from 2012 to 2013. Also, there was a 7 percent rise in the number of registered handgun owners in Clark County last year, according to Metro’s Gun Registrations Detail. Both mean more potential danger inside and outside the home.
Area Commands will answer questions about how to secure your home and your guns, along with other crime prevention tips, during next week’s First Tuesday.
First Tuesday is an open house program that takes place on the First Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at LVMPD Area Commands. Anyone is welcome to attend. After the designated topic discussion, citizens are able to learn more about their neighborhoods and meet their local police officers.
