HAWTHORNE, CALIF. -- A Youtube video gone viral has drawn outrage online. The video shows police in Hawthorne, California shooting and killing a dog belonging to Leon Rosby after handcuffing the man. Rosby appeared to have been filming a police raid using a cell phone.
It is unclear in the video what motivated the police to handcuff the Rosby -- the video does a jump cut at the 2:03 mark, shortly before police move in to detain him. The man did not resist the officers' actions. However, the Rosby's dog jumped out of his car window and approached police as the man was being taken away. The dog stopped short of attacking the officers, who then drew their weapons and shot the dog.
According to Rosby's attorney, Michael Gulden, his client plans to file a lawsuit against the Hawthorne Police Department.
Hawthorne police have not issued a response to the incident.
