New developments tonight in a fact finder investigation we broke one week ago, concerning a deadly shooting over the Fourth of July weekend -- still unsolved.
The suspect says he saw our story and he is now willing to release his own medical records in an effort to keep the case from dragging on any longer.
We have decided not to identify the suspect because he has not been arrested or charged.
That suspect is a young Iraq War veteran who police say shot and killed this man -- an unarmed friend of his...Michael Boyle, as he picked Boyle up to give him a ride in Downtown Reno.
When we asked why the suspect has not been charged, Reno Police and the District Attorney told us the V-A hospital was holding up the case by not releasing the suspect's medical records.
But attorney Ken Mckenna says his client is tired of waiting. And he's willing to release those records in an effort to get the case moving.
"I would suspect they'll have the records within a week or two weeks, then they'll have to review them but I think we're on reasonably short time frame now, thanks to your investigative reporting, that will get resolution for both the victim's family and my client," Mckenna told News 4.
News 4 called District Attorney Dick Gammick to get his reaction to this news...But we did not hear back from him on Monday. Mckenna says the D-A's office was receptive when he told them his client is willing to release his records.
