LAS VEGAS -- Anyone planning on running for local offices in Clark County this year is encouraged to pre-register their candidacy with the County Election Department beginning Saturday, Jan. 18.
“Pre-registering saves time for the candidates and Election Department staff,” Clark County Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria said. “This next step in the election calendar also is a good reminder to all of us to check our voter registration status and information through the Election Department website
The pre-registration period is open from Saturday, Jan. 18, through March 14. (This is for non-judicial candidates for local offices only. The judicial candidate filing period ends today, Friday, Jan. 17. Candidates for statewide offices file with the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office.)
To pre-register, go to the County Election Department websit
e. Once on the website, login to the Registered Voter Services section and then select "Pre-register for Candidacy" from the menu.
Candidates will be able to nearly complete their filing paperwork online, which will save them a significant amount of time when they go to an Election Department office to formally file as candidates. All candidates are required to appear in person at an Election Department office between March 3 and 14 to show identification, verify and sign filing forms, and pay their filing fee.
Residents are also reminded that they can check their voter registration status and information through the Registered Voter Services section on the Election Department website.
While the 2014 elections are still far off – the primary is June 10 and the general is Nov. 4, 2014 – residents who are eligible to vote but not registered to vote, are encouraged to register now. More information about elections and voting, including a listing of important upcoming dates and deadlines for candidates and voters, is also available through the Election Department website.
