BOULDER CITY (KSNV MyNews3) -- Metro Lt. Hans Walters sounded very calm as he called 911 to report that he had killed his wife and son and set fire to his home just minutes before he killed himself on Jan. 21.
The tape was released by Boulder City police while the shooting was investigated by Henderson police.
Walters shot and killed his wife, Kathryn Michelle Walters, and 5-year-old son Max before lighting his house on fire and committing suicide.
After giving his address, phone number and identifying himself and that he works for Metro, Walters calmly explains ... "I just shot and killed my son Max and my wife Michelle and I did so because she is in such chronic pain from her neck and back and on more medicines and she's not going to survive."
Walters only raises his voice twice -- when the 911 operator tries to ask him a question.
You can hear a fire alarm in the background as Walters explains that he has already set the house on fire.
He tells the 911 dispatcher that if firefighters come to the house he will open fire on them. He says he wants to make sure the house is burning before he kills himself.
"Forgive me for my sins," Walters says just before hanging up to end the 80-second call. "Please don't call back."
The Henderson Police Department released a report on the shooting today.
