With extreme heat, more cooling station set in valley

With extreme heat expected, additional cooling stations are opening in various locations around the Valley to help keep the homeless and other individuals out of the heat. The cooling stations are opening as part of the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition's Inclement Weather Shelter Program.

Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army serve as our summer day-shelters and are open during the hours listed below, seven days a week throughout the summer.

-- Catholic Charities, 1501 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (For men only.)
-- The Salvation Army, 31 W. Owens Ave., North Las Vegas, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (For adults only.)
-- The Shade Tree, 1 W. Owens Ave., North Las Vegas, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (For women and children only.)

The following locations will be open as long as the extreme heat warning continues:
-- Cambridge Recreation Center, 3930 Cambridge St., Las Vegas, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Mon-Fri); 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Sat)
-- Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road, Las Vegas, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Mon-Thu); 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Fri); 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Sat)
-- Hollywood Recreation Center, 1650 S. Hollywood Blvd., Las Vegas, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Mon-Thu); 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Fri); 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Sat)
-- Islamic Society of Nevada, 4730 E. Desert Inn Road, Las Vegas, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
-- Reconciliation Apostolic Ministries, 1401 N. Decatur Blvd. No. 14, Las Vegas, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Mon-Fri)
-- Stupak Community Center, 251 W. Boston Ave., Las Vegas, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Mon-Fri); 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Sat)
-- Walnut Recreation Center, 3075 N. Walnut Ave., Las Vegas, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (M-F); 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Sat.)
-- Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave., Las Vegas, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. (M-F); 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sat.)
-- Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. (at Basic Road), Henderson, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Mon-Fri); 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sat)
-- Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road (at East Horizon Drive), Henderson, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Mon-Fri); 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sat); 1 to 5 p.m. (Sun)
-- Colorado River Food Bank, 240 Laughlin Civic Drive, Laughlin, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
-- Richard Springston American Legion building, 1510 Bruce Woodbury Drive, Laughlin, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
