LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say a 10-year old girl died after being struck by a Clark County school bus in a residential neighborhood.

The child was hit just after 3:30 p.m. in northwestern Las Vegas on Friday. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

School officials say three children were on the bus when the accident happened. School officials plan to send a letter home with students on Monday to inform parents of the death.

Meanwhile, a teen pedestrian was struck while on a sidewalk a few miles away just after a driver lost control of their vehicle late Friday.

The teen was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The victims were not named and their age and gender was not provided.

Perhaps your news station could show some class when re-running the story on your newscasts by not showing the blanket covered body of the child on the ground by the bus. We get its tragic, but there's no need for that image to be flashed in the minds of the people who are affected by this accident.

Cruise is absolutely right. It is not uncommon to see a school bus 5-10 miles above the speed limit. Not a big deal in a regular car, but those buses are gigantic, and need more stopping time. I have been cut off by a school bus with no blinkers. And, those bus drivers act like they got better things to do. Rude to the students. What is the big rush?

Doesn't surprise me, many of our school bus drivers speed, make unsafe lane changes and roll through red lights on right hand turns. One would think a school bus driver would be extra cautious when they are transporting our children and representing the school district. School bus drivers need to take pride in their work and set a standard for all motorist on the road, after all your profession is driving.
