HENDERSON – Henderson Police officers conducted checks of underage alcohol compliance at stores over the weekend to help ensure that minors are not able to buy alcoholic beverages.
Officers from the Community Relations Unit, with the assistance of underage volunteers, checked 71 convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores throughout the city of Henderson on Saturday evening.
Of the 71 establishments, 65 did not sell alcohol to the underage person. However, six businesses did sell alcohol to the minor in violation of the Henderson Municipal Code 04.36.340, which prohibits the distribution of alcoholic beverages to minors.
The businesses that failed were:
•Albertsons, 2650 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.
•Smith’s, 830 S. Boulder Highway.
•Food 4 Less, 1301 S. Boulder Highway.
•Green Valley Grocery, 10980 S. Eastern Ave.
•Get N Go, 3061 Sts Rose Parkway
•Terrible Herbst, 10530 S. Eastern Ave.
The clerks were issued a citation for serving an underage person and face a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
The owners or managers of a business that fails a second or third time can also be issued a citation and could face the revocation of their business license.
The Albertsons location also failed a compliance check in December 2011. Businesses that fail an alcohol compliance check generally are rechecked at some time in the future.
