BUNKERVILLE (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- About 50 BLM firefighters are working today to contain a five-acre brush fire that began Friday evening.
The fire began about 6:50 p.m. Friday and was initially fought by four firefighters from Mesquite and six from Bunkerville.
Bureau of Land Management crews took over firefighting efforts about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
"The fire is 50 percent contained now and we expect it to be fully contained by this evening," BLM spokeswoman Kirsten Cannon said shortly after noon today.
Cannon said four engines and one hand crew were involved in the effort.
The fire is about 1.5 miles east of Riverside Road between the Virgin River and the Bunker Dam Road. There are no structures in the area and at no point were any threatened. Crews were able to get an initial knockdown within approximately an hour and monitored the area for hot spots while waiting for BLM engines from Las Vegas to arrive.
