Boxing referee Steele celebrates birthday with fundraiser

LAS VEGAS -- Local boxing legend and long-time community activist Richard Steele is nearing the end of the 12th round.

Join Richard Steele as he celebrates his birthday and holds a fundraiser for his gym.

Steele has been fighting to keep his charity boxing gym open for months. The gym helps children and teens stay off the streets. He recently lost a state grant that helps pay the bills.

News 3's Sergio Avila is has more information about a fundraiser happening tomorrow, and that's where you come in. February first is just around the corner and that means rent one the gym is due.

Steele is hoping he can raise enough money to keep these youth programs from being knocked out.

The event is Saturday, Jan. 26 at 3 p.m. at Steel Boxing located at 2475 W. Cheyenne Ave., North Las Vegas.

There will be something for the entire family with boxing, door prizes, music, food and beverages and more.

Steele has been a pillar in the North Las Vegas community for years. His dedication to boxing and to his community is exceptional.

Organizers are asking for a minimum of a $5 donation at the door.
