LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- As many of you opened gifts this morning, some in our community were eating the only meal they'll have all day.
Today at Catholic Charities, volunteers served warm meals to those less fortunate.
Hundreds of people from across the valley turned out for the dinner.
People began to line up about an hour before the doors opened. Catholic Charities served nearly 2,500 Christmas dinners this morning. The first plates were served at 10 a.m. The Christmas menu included roasted turkey, stuffing, broccoli, potatoes and, for dessert, crème brulee.
More than a hundred people helped make today's Christmas dinner a success, from putting food on the plates, to placing meals on the tables and cleaning up after. The staff says preparations started about a week ago, and it was all worth it to see everyone enjoy a hot meal
The non-profit has been serving meals to the less fortunate since 1965. Every single day at 10 a.m., they serve a community meal where anyone who is hungry can get food to eat.
