LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Metro investigators are trying to determine exactly what happened Friday night when one of several officers responding to a burglary call was shot in the leg as he wrestled with a suspect.
Two men have been arrested and the officer has been released from the hospital after being shot by his firearm in the upper right leg.
"Detectives have a lot of people to talk to because there were several officers, several business owners and the suspects at the scene," Metro Officer Laura Meltzer told News 3 this morning.
The incident started about 10:45 p.m. Friday when Metro was called about a possible burglary in an industrial area in the 4700 block of Quality Court near Tropicana and Decatur on the west side of the valley.
"The officer reported that he attempted to get a suspect to surrender and was able to get one handcuff on one wrist when there was a scuffle and the officer's gun discharged and he was struck in the upper right leg," Meltzer said. "Detectives are trying to determine if the officer fired his gun or the suspect tried to grab it and shot him."
Meltzer said the officer was released after treatment and two adult men have been arrested.
The suspects will likely be charged with burglary or grand larceny. Charges on the shooting could range from felony resisting arrest with substantial bodily harm all the way to attempted murder, depending on the details of the shooting.
No names have been released by Metro as the investigation is ongoing.
