In anticipation of 12/12/12 being an especially popular day to get married, Clark County Clerk Diana Alba will have her Laughlin office open on Dec. 12 so couples there can get a marriage license on that day there.
The Laughlin branch office of the County Clerk at 101 Civic Way will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The office is usually only open on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday of every week.
“The dates in which the day, month and year share the same numbers have been very busy for us, and we expect 12/12/12 will follow that trend,” Alba said. “By opening our Laughlin branch office on that day, we will hopefully spare some couples a long, anxious drive to Las Vegas.”
Alba is also encouraging couples planning on getting married here on or around Dec. 12 to complete a marriage license pre-application, which is available online through the County Clerk website
. Completing the pre-application is not required, but would save time for the couples.
The application can be found by going to the County website
and then select “Get a Marriage License”
from the Most Popular drop down list on the left.
After completing the application online, the couple will be issued a reference number, which they should bring to the Marriage License Bureau in addition to proper identification, such as a driver’s license or passport (a complete list of allowed identification and other information is available through the Clerk’s web page
). Marriage licenses cost $60.
Tourists coming to Clark County to attend a wedding or get married spent an estimated $527 million on lodging, entertainment, dining and other non-gaming activities in Clark County in 2011.
Clark County has seen spikes in marriage licenses around other recent numerically significant dates, with the busiest being July 4-7, 2007 (7/7/07) when 4,333 marriage licenses were issued. The office usually issues about 7,400 marriage licenses per month.
The main Marriage License Bureau office is in downtown Las Vegas, just three blocks south of the Fremont Street Experience. The office is at 201 E. Clark St., which is on the south side of the Regional Justice Center. The office is open from 8 a.m. to midnight every day, including holidays.-- From news release
