A 26-year-old inmate was found dead in his cell at the county jail on Sunday. News 3's Mackenzie Warren has an update on the investigation. Because of the man's age, and the fact that he died while under the watch of police and Clark County coroner Mike Murphy says this case will be looked at carefully.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- An inmate housed at the Clark County Detention Center was discovered this afternoon unresponsive in his cell by an on duty corrections officer and later died at UMC.

The inmate was the only person in the cell. Medical personnel were summoned to his cell at approximately 1:10 a.m. and the inmate was transported to the University Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment. The inmate was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. by medical personnel.

The inmate has been identified as 26-year-old Rammale Peterson.

Metro says the Peterson’s death appears to be medical in nature. The exact cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

An investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
