LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Clark County School District Superintendent Dwight Jones will lay out the state of our schools in a speech this morning at Western High School.

The superintendent is expected to talk about the new Open Book Portal, which goes live today.

It's a new website designed to uphold the School District's pledge of being more transparent.

The community will find a breakdown of the district's spending and expenses.

There also will be a guest book for people to weigh in on how the district can save more money.

As for the State of the District address, Jones is expected to touch on graduation rates.

This past year, Clark County graduated about 65 percent of its students. Historically barely half of students who started ninth grade ended up graduating.

Despite the improvement, Clark County remains next to last in the nation.

Also, Jones likely will talk about the district's new rating system and where schools are falling a year after it rolled out.

Looking ahead, there will be a big push for more math and science and preparing more students to take Advanced Placement courses.

Other priorities the superintendent is expected to highlight: more rigorous coursework at the middle school level and districtwide, and getting students on track with the new, more advanced national academic standards.
