LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- On a hot day like this one you can't help but wonder about global warming.
Yes it's summer in Las Vegas, but today President Obama gave a major climate change speech in Washington to say our planet is getting warmer and now local governments need to step up.
Recently, clean energy dominated the conversation at the state legislature in Carson City.
Our state's monopoly power company, NV Energy pushed a major piece of legislation through that will close every coal plant in our state.
The energy cross-over strategy is called "N-Vision" and it fits right along President Obama's new climate change plan announced Tuesday.
But with pledges to cleaner energy comes politics and in NV Energy's case -- it's new boss.
The power company is about to be bought by billionaire Warren Buffet.
NV Energy CEO Michael Yackira didn't get an advance copy of the president's speech but Yackira knew it was coming.
"What we just had passed in our legislature was in anticipation of president comment today," Yackira said. "We didn't know when he was going to say something."
President Obama making the connection today from Georgetown university, saying 97 percent of scientists say global warming is happening and humans aren't helping.
