HENDERSON, Nev. – The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is calling all green thumbs to help plant shade trees, aquatic shrubs and wildflower seeds along the lake shore at Cornerstone Park for Make a Difference Day.

The event takes place Saturday, October 26 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1600 Wigwam Pkwy. The free event is open to people of all ages and abilities.

Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of community service, uniting volunteers around the world on projects that improve their communities.

Thousands of projects are planned each year involving corporations, communities, nonprofit organizations, entire states and individuals. Henderson’s community tree planting project will help beautify and preserve the unique 31-acre lake feature at Cornerstone Park.

Volunteers will help plant trees to shade the trail and aquatic shrubs to stabilize the lake shore. Participants are encouraged to wear shoes that can get muddy and bring a shovel and gloves. Arborists and master gardeners will be on hand to answer landscape and gardening questions. A light lunch will be served to volunteers.
