NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – A woman serving a life sentence for first-degree murder attempted an escape this morning from the Florence McClure Women’s Correctional Center, 4370 Smiley Road.
Officials of the Nevada Department of Corrections say that Brookey West, 59, was discovered by Correctional Staff trying to exit the facility while other inmates were on their way to breakfast.
West was convicted in Clark County in 2001 for killing her mother, Christine Smith, and stuffing the body into a trash barrel in 1998.
West was able to disguise her clothing and appearance; however, staff recognized her as she attempted to pass through a security gate. She was restrained and returned to a secure housing area.
The facility is under controlled movement status while this incident is being investigated.
