NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) -- An 18-year-old man who was struck by a car that jumped a North Las Vegas curb on New Year's Day has died.
Police believe alcohol, drugs and speed may have played a role in the Tuesday crash that killed Jesse Hill and also left a 16-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported 19-year-old driver Cristian Ivan Diaz was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle along Gliding Eagle Road. Police say that immediately after the crash, 18-year-old passenger Ricardo Daniel Velasquez tried to get rid of a small baggie of marijuana.
Diaz was booked on suspicion of failing to maintain a travel lane and failing to obtain a Nevada driver's license within 30 days.
Velasquez was booked on marijuana possession and destruction of evidence charges.
