LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- Clark County Commissioners are revisiting a plan to increase sales tax.

News 3's Fatima Rahmatullah explains what's at stake and how much it could end up costing taxpayers.

Clark county commissioners will introduce on Tuesday two tax proposals on how to pay for more police officers. Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager will introduce a revised proposal that would cut the sales tax incease in half to .075 percent.

Her plan would force Metro to dip into their reserve to cover about half of the budget deficit, metro says they will face next year. The other half will come from taxpayers.

The original .15 percent plan will also be discussed at the request of County Comissioner Tom Collins.

Brager says her revised proposal is a better option at this time.

“At this time I think the 0.075 gets us going where we need and the public and wanting to protect them on tax increases," Brager said. "This is the best way it can be done and still accommodate the needs of Metro."

Some commissioners support Brager's revised proposal, some support the original tax increase of 15 percent while others oppose a tax increase all together. The ordinance will go up for vote October first.
