LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- For this survivor, the January 2011 night started off fun: drinks with friends before heading home.

But Mary Kay Beckman didn't know who would be waiting for her -- a man she met on a dating website.

This is the first time Beckman is back at the crime scene -- her old town home in central Las Vegas, where she was left for dead almost two years ago after an attack from Wade Ridley.

“I don't know if he startled me and I fell here,” Beckman said. “I was on the phone, keys in hand and he startled me.”

Ridley -- who also was wanted in Arizona for killing another woman -- stabbed Beckman repeatedly then ran off.

“It would've be one of these two units that heard me scream,” Beckman said.

One of those neighbors came to help. Today, she still doesn't know who much of the actual attack.

“The closest thing I remember is throwing up before my seizure. That was Jan. 22nd,” she said.

This is all part of the miracle in how she survived. Shortly after the stabbing, she showed us where the knife struck her eight times.

“I'm not scared,” Beckman said now. “A year ago I was scared, I was tense, emotional, I wanted to leave and that's passed.”

Helping Beckman’s recovery is the support from family, friends, even strangers that she connects with when they hear her story.

“I see ‘A ha’ light bulbs in someone's eyes,” she said. “There is another life, and I always say, life is too short. Don't give that energy, negative energy any more emotion because you've got to move on for yourself and others.”

Ridley, 54, was found dead April 29 at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs. Ridley had been placed in segregation five days earlier. The Clark County coroner’s office ruled that he was suffocated with a plastic bag over his head and said it was a suicide.
