LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – A man collided with two Metro vehicles this morning in the 4800 block of Lake Mead as the officers were parked working an unrelated traffic stop.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the two Metro police officers were hit by a suspected drunk driver in a 2006 BMW traveling westbound. The collision happened around 1 a.m.
News 3's Denise Rosch is in the newsroom with more and it looks like the officers are expected to be OK.
Both went to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. This happened while the officers were conducting an unrelated traffic stop.
Police say this man 25-year-old Daniel Esparza slammed his BMW into the rear of a patrol car that was parked along the side of the road. This happened about 1:00 this morning on Lake Mead and Lamont.
The impact sent that black and white into another patrol car. Esparaza, the two officers and the driver of the original car involved in the stop all went to the hospital.
Esparaza was later booked for DUI causing substantial bodily harm. Metro Spokesman Jose Hernandez says these accidents are frustrating because they're preventable.
