LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- It's being called the next generation of air combat and Nellis Air Force Base pilots will be at the controls. A handful of f-35 fighter jets have just landed at the base.

As News 3's Sergio Avila shows us, this new fighter is designed to take on America’s new enemies.

Nellis Air Force base, the home of the Thunderbirds, will now be the home of the F-35 fighter jet. One of the latest innovations in US Military weaponry but this jet doesn't come without some issues, issues the commanders here at Nellis say they're ready to tackle.

It's arrival was cause for celebration.

Nellis commanders hosted a welcome ceremony tuesday morning for the f-35 fighter.

Major General Jeff Lofgren says this plane is so cutting-edge, the air force still doesn't know all it can do.

“The aircraft has so much more capability than our current aircraft that we don't know yet exactly how we're going to use it,” Gen. Lofgren said.

Nellis pilots have been tapped to take the new jets to their limits, testing everything, to get them battle ready.
