LAS VEGAS – Beginning Jan. 2, the Nevada Department of Transportation will start construction on F Street north of Interstate 15 as part of the project to reopen F Street under the interstate.

Conducted by Las Vegas Paving, the work will begin on McWilliams from F Street to E Street and make improvements to the storm drain and sewer utilities. McWilliams from F Street to E Street will be closed; however, the northern half of McWilliams will remain accessible to homeowners.

Shortly after the utility work begins on McWilliams, the roadwork and utility work on F Street from I-15 to Washington will begin. The approximate start date is Jan. 20; the work will run through the end of spring.

Construction equipment and haul trucks will utilize G Street, H Street and E street to enter/exit the work area. Once the work on F Street begins, all through traffic on F Street will be restricted. This includes the Washington, Morgan, McWilliams and the alley entrances. Access will remain available to the homeowners requiring it from F Street.

When the asphalt removal is done, crews will install base ramps so homeowners can drive through the worksite to enter their driveways.

Throughout the duration of this work, construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; no work will take place outside of these times unless neighborhood notification is provided at least 48 hours in advance.

A collaboration between NDOT and the City of Las Vegas, the F Street Connection Project will re-establish direct access between downtown Las Vegas and the West Las Vegas community and accommodate pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular traffic.

The project includes a resurfacing of F Street, new sidewalks, curbs and gutter installations, decorative lighting and attractive landscaping north to Washington Avenue, along with community-approved corridor panels celebrating the historic legacy of West Las Vegas. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.
