LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A fifth case of West Nile disease in the Las Vegas Valley has been reported by health officials.
The Southern Nevada Health District reported today that an adult over the age of 50 is hospitalized with the more serious neuro-invasive form of the illness.
In addition, West Nile positive mosquitoes have been detected in the 89122 zip code.
Since July 3, the health district has reported four previous cases of West Nile-related illnesses; one patient has died.
Most cases of West Nile virus occur during the summer months. The SNHD will not be releasing additional details related to West Nile patients, such as age or gender, in accordance with state law.
