CARSON CITY (AP & KSNV) -- A Nevada sheriff says investigators believe four suspects stole property in the apartment of the state's chief insurance examiner before killing him and dumping his body in a river in Carson City.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Sunday that all four suspects have been booked on murder charges in the death of 62-year-old William McCune, whose blanket-wrapped, duct-tape-bound body was found Saturday shortly after 8 a.m. in the Carson River.

The four arrested, all from the Carson City area, are 23-year-old Michael Paul Evans, 20-year-old Anthony Elliot, 20-year-old Makyla Blackmore and 22-year-old Raul Garcia. Evans was arrested in Carson City while the other three were arrested Saturday morning on the Las Vegas Strip after police said they tried to sell a computer item..

"At this time, interviews and evidence is beginning to suggest that the possible motive of this event was theft driven by illegal drug use," Furlong wrote in a news release.

Investigators found evidence of a bloody, violent struggle in McCune's apartment on Thursday, the same day he was reported missing.

Furlong says McCune apparently knew two of the suspects socially, and the motive was the theft of property or money from him.

An autopsy of the body was conducted Saturday by the Washoe County medical examiner's office. Details of the autopsy are pending, and a positive identification of the body recovered from the river has not yet been established. The Carson City coroner's office believes that McCune does have next of kin to contact.

McCune's missing vehicle remains unaccounted for. The vehicle's license plates were found when
