HENDERSON -- An unidentified man was rescued Saturday from the bottom of a mine shaft in a remote desert area near Railroad Pass.

The man reportedly fell about 30 feet. The extent of his injuries was not available.

The call came in about 3 p.m. After the Henderson Fire Department found the victim at the bottom of the shaft, the department's technical rescue team used a high-angle rope rescue operation, gained access to the victim to give medical treatment and prepared to remove him from the mine. The man was extricated with a rope rescue system and transported on a Metro Search & Rescue helicopter and flown to a Henderson ground rescue unit for treatment and transport to an unspecified hospital.

There is no condition report available on the man. No injuries were reported to any rescue personnel that also included the Henderson Police Deartment, Metro and BLM staffers.
