LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Loved ones of missing 10-year-old Jade Morris rushed to the scene near North Fifth Street and Deer Springs Way on Thursday where police just announced her body may have been found.

“While I cannot confirm the identity at this point, we are waiting on confirmation of the body and the identity by the coroner's office,” said Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Captain Chris Jones. “I can tell you that the likelihood is that this is our victim.”

Jade disappeared last week. Her family's frantic search for her may have ended Thursday.

“I mean it's relieving, but it's heartbreaking because you know they found her and she wasn't alive,” said Morris’ grandfather, Philip Tucker.

Police said a person walking a dog found the body in an unfinished housing development.

“They called and said that you know, it's a good possibility that we found Jade,” said Tucker. “I was so in shock I didn't know, I couldn't think to ask them where, what happened, how.”

What happened to Jade and who is responsible are unanswered questions.

The young girl was last seen Friday with her father's now ex-girlfriend, Brenda Stokes Wilson.

Stokes was supposed to take Jade shopping. She never returned. The same night, Stokes was arrested at the Bellagio for slashing a woman's face with razor blades.

“Brenda Stokes is in custody for unrelated charges at this time,” said Jones. “Having just discovered the evidence out here at the scene, we're obviously working to connect any suspect we can.”

Jade’s godmother is now calling for justice.

“Whomever is involved with what happened to Jade, took her life, that we want them to be prosecuted to the highest,” said godmother Ni'cola Mitchell.

Mitchell said she remembers Jade as a happy little girl.

“A wonderful ball of sunshine,” Mitchell said. “Whenever you talked to her she always laughed.”

The Clark County coroner said the office will continue working to identify the body Friday as well as working to determine how the person died.

PAHOA, HAWAII - OCTOBER 26: In this handout provided by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), A portion of the front of the June 27th lava flow burns through thick vegetation and a fence on October 26, 2014 in Pahoa, Hawaii. Scientists of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted ground and air observations of the lava flow from the Kilauea Volcano and determined that it was 510 meters (560 yards) upslope from Pa-hoa Village Road and the flow width was about 50 meters (55 yards) at the leading edge. Molten rock from the flow is inching its way towards homes in the town of Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island where close to a thousand people live. (Photo by USGS via Getty Images) (Handout, 2014 USGS)
