LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) --Cab drivers from Yellow/Checker/Star are on strike. It started Sunday at midnight following a decision to file a complaint with the labor board after their union and the company reached an impasse.

“We're not getting anything we didn't already have. That’s the whole thing. There’s no new stuff in there, incentive for us. We served our time here. You know, give us something,” said cab driver Phil Gelardi.

Talks broke down last month, and Yellow/Checker/ Star Chief Operating Officer Bill Shranko says no contract was agreed upon.

“We reached an impasse. They wanted to keep asking. We had gone over our limit. We had a tentative agreement. When you have a tentative agreement, you would think it would be ratified,” Shranko said.

But it wasn’t. He says offers were twice rejected by the union. So without an agreement, a final implemented terms and condition of employment was rolled out.

The cab drivers’ union has now filed with the labor board to try to bring the parties back to the table.

“The implementation is unacceptable to the majority of the drivers in this company and they refuse to work under terms and conditions of employment that failed to provide them with a fair and economic package,” said Paul Bohelski of the ITPEU Local 4873.

Cab drivers on strike say they haven’t had raises in a long time and want to keep up with the cost of living, for starters.

“Just to get respect and not to be forced to work 72 hours plus a week working hours and would like to get working hour’s details on our paycheck,” said cab driver Binyam Semereab.

Bill Shranko says the company not only provided raises but other incentives. But the union says it wanted some more. It hopes the door will be reopened for negotiations.

The company hopes the cab drivers on strike will come back to work.
