LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has released the identities of a police officer injured in a vehicle collision Saturday night, and the motorist involved.
Officer Michael Contreras, 27, was on duty in the area of Lake Mead east of Simmons when the accident occurred around 8 p.m. He has been employed with Metro since December 2007.
Contreras was operating his LVMPD-marked motorcycle when an older model Ford Ranger pickup, driven by Jack Bradford, 45, of Washington, Utah, attempted to turn into the parking lot of the Dotty’s Casino on the southeast corner of Lake Mead and Simmons and drove in front of the officer.
Contreras hit the truck and was ejected off of his motorcycle. He was stabilized at the scene and transported to UMC Trauma for treatment. Contreras sustained a broken wrist and head injuries. A CAT scan of his torso did not reveal any internal injuries.
Bradford was subsequently arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for felony driving under the influence with substantial bodily harm, failure to yield to oncoming traffic, failure to obey a red light, no insurance, vehicle registration violation and non-resident cancelled/suspended driver’s license.
