LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Whether they're just back from duty or served in wars past, one of the most important services for our local veterans in Las Vegas is housing. Today, local leaders who are helping make veteran housing a reality are being recognized.
Former and current Las Vegas Mayors Oscar and Carolyn Goodman were honored at a ceremony today at Veteran’s Village. Formerly the Econo Lodge, Veteran’s Village has been under renovation for the past year. The complex provides temporary housing for vets and their families.
"It's been a life-changing event," said veteran Greg Bannon. "They've done so much for me and so many other of us vets -- I mean, I can't even begin to tell you. It's phenomenal."
Residents also get assistance finding jobs and life skills training. The complex is part of an effort to complete approximately 900 new housing units for veterans across Southern Nevada.
