CARSON CITY (KSNV MyNews3) -- There will be debate here during the Nevada legislative session, but there is also a great spirit of cooperation here as new lawmakers arrive for training sessions.

Lawmakers are learning a whole new vocabulary for work in Carson City.

These are the eager faces of some of Nevada's newest lawmakers. The official name plates have yet to be made: but the work in Carson City is well under way.

Rick Combs, head of the Legislative Counsel Bureau, is spearheading the legislative boot camp.

“You don't have to know everything on day one, but it's really helpful if you have some kind of intro as 120 days goes on,” he said.

New Assemblyman James Healey is grateful for the crash course:

Former state Sen. Terry Care was on hand to offer advice and also an analogy: Compromising is a bit like ordering a pizza for a big group because agreeing on the toppings is just one step to compromise.

At the Legislative Gift Shop, there is one overwhelming theme: Nevada pride. Looking for a Nevada mug or jacket? You'll find one here, but amongst lawmakers there are two natural divisions: Democrats and Republicans and the north and south.

“We have a lot of tough challenges that we're facing with in Nevada, and we have decided collectively that political gamesmanship has no place here,” said Democratic Sen. Pat Spearman, standing side-by-side with her Republican colleague, Assemblywoman Michelle Fiore.

“We're here learning to work together with our peers,” Fiore said.
