LAS VEGAS -- Ronnie Beamon lives in a small home with his little boy, 5 year old Gabriael. He is disabled and has very few belongings. That’s why he wrote a letter to Walker Furniture.
“We sleep in my bedroom on the top floor on the mattress with Gabriael with one blanket. I am blessed to have my son and we both love each other. We believe in Psalm 23:1-6. With all our faith, He shall provide,” Beamon wrote.
He was one of 28 families selected to have their homes completely furnished, in Walker Furniture’s 19th Annual Home for the Holidays program, designed to help families in Clark County.
“I had to have been special. God had to have been looking over us to choose us. He had to have been, he had to have been,” Beamon said.
Little Gabriel couldn’t wait. He and his other brothers who were visiting were very excited when the Walker Furniture truck pulled and deliverymen wearing Santa hats started unloading furniture.
“There goes my bunk bed!” Gabriel shouted.
On the other side of town, Daryl Porter’s family received a visit too.
He works hard to support his family. He and his wife are raising five children. The youngest is almost one year old. But paying rent and the light bill is priority over furniture he says. So he is overwhelmed by the selection of his family and the deliverymen bringing one item of furniture after another into his apartment.
“This is better than any toy they can get, anything they could unwrap on Christmas morning and break the next week. This will give them a home, not just a place to live but an actual home, a place to sleep at night, to eat dinner, eat breakfast, sit as a family, watch TV, things we couldn't do before,” Porter said.
Porter says most of his children have been sleeping on cots, but now will be sleeping on beds.
These families hearts are filled with joy as their homes are filled with furniture, a gift they believe will change their lives.
