LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3.com) -- A baby boy is dead and it's believed his mom's boyfriend is to blame.

The man, who was taking care of him, is now accused of his murder.

Bransen Locks, 36, was arrested for unrelated theft and drug charges in May -- now police have tacked on murder and child abuse charges.

Police interviewed the baby's 5-year-old sister who told police it was Bransen Locks who hurt her baby brother in a tree house.

When Metro police arrested Locks following the suspicious death of 1-year-old Bently Olsen, they say, Locks was hiding in a crawl space underneath his south Tenaya way residence.

Police say Locks' mother said it's been a rough year with him and his drug problem. She suspected he used crystal meth.

When emergency crews got to the house, the baby was wet and limp, but alive. Police say Locks said he put the baby in the shower before medics arrived hoping it would quote “snap him out of what he was doing.”

There were signs of abuse that went unquestioned prior to baby Bentley's untimely death. Police say his mom told investigators the thought had crossed her mind to ask locks about bruising, but she never did.

Many of the details of little Bentley's death are too gruesome to describe but the baby's brain was bleeding and swelling so badly, University Medical Center doctors were forced to remove a portion of his skull to relieve the pressure.

Police say baby Bentley's mom told police she had only been dating Locks for one to two weeks before she allowed him to care for her children alone.

But that care is what police say may have taken a baby boy from this world far too soon.

As for baby Bently's 5-year-old sister, she is now in protective custody.
