LAS VEGAS (KSNV -- News 3 has learned the name of a suspect in the shooting and crash that killed three people early Thursday morning in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip.

Metro also went into a condo in the 200 block of East Flamingo about 4:30 p.m. today in at attempt to find the suspect, but he was not in the residence. And, Metro found the wanted black Range Rover Sport in the parking garage at the Meridian condo complex just a few blocks from the intersection where the fatal crash occurred.

Ammar Harris, 26, is described as black, 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. A Metro news release that was sent shortly after the News 3 report says Harris goes by the name Ammar Asim Farug Harris, and variations of that name. He is described as 5-foot-11, 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Metro detectives are seeking Harris in the shooting/accident that began in the valet parking area of the Aria and ended at the intersection of Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard South -- the busiest intersection in the state.

Police say they found shell casings in the apartment that linked Harris to the killed Kenneth Cherry Jr., a 27-year-old aspiring rapper who had moved a few years ago from Oakland, Calif., to Las Vegas. Also killed in the crash were 62-year-old cab driver Michael Bolton and cab passenger Sandra Sutton-Wasmund of Washington state, who was a two-time breast cancer survivor. She was headed from the Rio to catch an early flight at McCarran International Airport.

Metro says somebody in the Range Rover fired shots into a Maserati that Cherry was driving as the two vehicles sped northbound on the boulevard. Cherry was fatally wounded and his Maserati collided with several vehicles in the intersection, including a Desert Cab vehicle that exploded and burned. Other vehicles were also involved. Three people were treated and released from UMC. Cherry's unnamed passenger was wounded in the arm and has been talking with Metro since the accident.

Metro said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information as to Harris' location or information about the incident is urged to contact Metro's homicide section at (702) 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or on the internet at If Harris is sighted, citizens are urged to call 911.

Court records show Harris was arrested most recently in May 2012 for robbery, sexual assault, second-degree kidnapping and coercion with a deadly weapon. He faced similar charges in 2010.

Harris is shown in a photograph with this story that was taken at Haze nightclub on Wednesday evening. The picture was taken by and provided to News 3. The other picture of him is a mug shot provided by Metro.
