LAS VEGAS --
A public memorial service has been scheduled for our friend and longtime Las Vegas weatherman John Fredericks, who died on Friday, Nov. 23 the age of 57.
The service, which will celebrate John’s life, will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 8 at Canyon Ridge Christian Church. Early arrival is recommended and seating will begin at 9:30 that morning.
Canyon Ridge Christian Church is located at 6200 West Lone Mountain Road in Las Vegas.
The organizers are asking anyone who would like to share their favorite memories of John to do so by emailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org
Fredericks was part of the News 3 morning news team from 1995 through 2008, and had a close connection with his viewers.
While with News 3 his main job was weather forecasting, eventually becoming the station's Chief Meteorologist. But he was known for other things, perhaps first and foremost among them, his love of animals.
Fredericks' dog Jordan was a presence on the show for many years, and John was well known throughout the pet community for his compassion and championship of animal causes.
He also brought a lot of fun to our morning show with his "Joke of the Day", "Fredericks' Fact" and friendly on-air presence.
When Fredericks left, he published a book about his life with Jordan, and he continued to be active with animal causes.
Fredericks had been in declining health for several months, and was admitted to Nathan Adelson Hospice.
In a visit by his friend, they say he was in good spirits and seemed at peace.
The Las Vegas Sun has reported that the ashes of a longtime Las Vegas TV weather personality known for his love of animals will be placed in a pet cemetery this weekend.
The family of John Fredericks, who appeared from 1995 to 2008 on KVBC Channel 3 — now KSNV — will place his ashes next to his beloved canine companion, Jordan, at the Craig Road Pet Cemetery.
A spokesman said the family reached its decision this week while preparing for Fredericks’ public memorial, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Canyon Ridge Christian Church, 6200 W. Lone Mountain Road.Memorial Fund Donations
