LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Metro officers shot and injured a man Saturday night in the 5300 block of Boulder Highway, the third officer-involved shooting in less than a week.
Metro Sgt. John Sheahan reported that police received a call about 9:40 p.m. that a man was attempting to hijack a car by shooting into a vehicle at the Town & Country Manor III apartments at 5390 Boulder Highway near Tropicana. A man was in the car as the suspect fired a gun. Several Metro officers responded quickly and confronted and shot the suspect. He was taken to Sunrise Hospital and was in stable condition Sunday morning. Neither police nor the man in the vehicle were injured.
Investigators worked the crime scene all Saturday night and Sunday morning. Sheahan said more information will be released later Monday morning.
It was the third officer-involved shooting for Metro officers since Monday when a man was fatally shot behind the Ross store near Maryland Parkway and East Desert Inn Road.
Officers also shot and killed a man who was holding knives to the throat of a female hostage on Friday morning near Katie and Cambridge streets.
The names of the officers in the Cambridge shooting were released Sunday morning by Metro. The officers are Russell Ellsworth, 28, and Brandon Oris, 29. Both have been employed by Metro since 2008. They are assigned to the South Central Area Command's patrol division. They have been placed on routine paid administrative leave during the investigation.
