LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3) -- There are new details on a story News 3 first reported last week when about a local business owner who claimed the website yelp was ripping her off.

Since then, five other local companies from chiropractors to tour guides have come forward to say they had the same experience.

Add Dr Craig Roles of Green Valley Chiropractic to a growing list of business owners that have said the yelp ripped them off.

“I’m sure I’ve lost business as a result of what yelp has done,” Roles said.

Roles said yelp called him months ago asking for him to buy advertisements.

The doctor considered it but eventually said no to advertising on yelp and that's when Green Valley Chiropractic's yelp page changed

“Within weeks, maybe two or three weeks all the positive reviews were gone and,” Roles said.

All the business all say the same thing. The reviews are positive but when they said no to advertising those reviews disappeared.

“The part of the law that’s left is one that yelp and others hide under that says we can produce anything as long as we didn’t write it,” said Roger McManus who works with the National Association of Small Business Owners.

McManus says he has heard this story played out across the country.

While some owners have taken to the courtroom to sue the website, McManus is looking to congress to change the communications decency act and making it illegal for any website to hide or change reviews in order to profit.

“We’re trying to take so yelp cannot manipulate the data so much that they can make a profit at the expense of a small business.” McManus said.
