LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – The mother of the 6-year-old boy struck by a school bus Monday morning was arrested after investigators say she routinely sent her two sons to the stop without supervision.

Kimberly Marie Russi, 31, of Las Vegas, was booked on two counts of child abuse, including on involving substantial bodily harm. Russi is also known as Kimberly Dela Cruz.

The accidents occurred at 6:40 a.m. Monday near the intersection of North Las Vegas Boulevard and Walnut Road.

An investigation shows that before the accident, the child entered the roadway and the approaching bus ran over the child’s right foot.

The child was transported to the UMC Trauma Center where he was treated for substantial but non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic officers determined the bus which struck the juvenile was not the bus which he normally rides, and the bus driver was not at fault in this accident.

Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact the LVMPD Abuse/Neglect Detail at (702) 828-3364 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.

It is sad that some parents today are too lazy to monitor and protect their children. I find it interesting that a bus driver does not report when a young child is unsupervised at a bus stop. I also do not agree with the school transportation policy that a child, no matter what age, must live more than 2 miles (as the crow flies) from the school they attend in order to have transportation provided. Even when this 2 miles involves children crossing major streets or walking through dangerous neighborhoods. It seems with their policy and parents like this, it is a recipe for disaster.

In todays society, this mother should be ashamed to have let her children be outside at anytime by thiemselves. It only takes a split second for some sick person to take them. My kids grew up in the 70s and 80s and I would not have allowed them out without me. Adults come up missing , without taking chances with your children. shame on you
